Data retention & deletion
How long we keep data and how deletion works end to end.
Last updated: 24 April 2026
We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or as required by law. Different categories of data have different retention windows; this page describes the defaults.
Retention windows
| Category | Retention | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Workspace content (contacts, conversations, etc.) | Life of subscription + 30 days | Provide service + grace period for export. |
| Deleted contacts (trash) | 30 days after delete | Undo support. |
| Call recordings | Customer-configured (30 / 90 / 365 days) | Customer retention policy. |
| Audit logs | 12 months (Pro) / 24 months (Enterprise) | Compliance and investigations. |
| Billing and tax records | 7 years | Statutory retention. |
| Server and security logs | 30–365 days | Incident investigations. |
| Backups | 30 days | Disaster recovery. |
| Marketing contact database | Until unsubscribe + 30 days | Suppression list. |
Deletion lifecycle
- Soft delete — an admin deletes data; it is removed from the active app and moved to a recovery state.
- Recovery window — 30 days for contacts; immediately for explicit erasure requests.
- Hard delete — data is purged from primary stores and search indexes.
- Backup expiry — data persists in backups until they naturally expire (typically 30 days). Backups are encrypted and not restored except for disaster recovery.
Erasure requests
Individuals with rights to erasure under applicable law can submit a request per the Data Subject Requests page. We prioritise erasure requests and shorten the recovery window to immediate.
Contract end
On termination of your subscription, you have 30 days of read-only access to export your data. After that window, we archive and later permanently delete your workspace. If you want data returned sooner, email privacy@opendoors.ai.
